A proposal to rename Nashville International Airport has gained agreement from both the Republican-dominated state government and the Democrat-controlled city government. The proposed name change would honor Dolly Parton, making her the first woman to have one of America's 50 busiest airports named after her.
A petition for the name change was started by Lydia Popovich, a Parton superfan, in 2025. However, it is known that Parton has previously declined similar honors, including a proposed statue on the Capitol grounds in 2021.
Further details on the proposal and Parton's response are available from the source.
